ABB ACS580 fault 3220: DC link undervoltage

ABB ACS580faultStandard control program ASCDX 2.05
Technical review pending. This guide is based on the cited manufacturer documentation; check it against the manual for your exact model and firmware before acting.

The drive’s DC link voltage fell too low and the drive tripped. ABB lists a missing supply phase, a blown fuse or a fault in the rectifier bridge as the causes. When the drive is stopped, the same condition shows as warning A3A2 instead of a fault.

When it happens

Likely causes and checks

1Missing supply phase or blown fuse

Points to it
Trip coincides with a supply event; other equipment on the same supply also reacts.
Check
Check the supply cabling, fuses and switchgear.

2Supply interruption longer than the ride-through

Points to it
Trips after short power dips; automatic restart enabled but the dip lasted too long.
Check
Compare the length of the dip with 21.18 Auto restart time (up to 10 s), and check whether 30.31 Undervoltage control is enabled.

3Rectifier bridge fault

Points to it
Supply and fuses are healthy but the fault repeats.
Check
Refer to ABB service; the rectifier is inside the drive.

Telling it apart

Relevant parameters

ParameterNameWhy it matters
30.31Undervoltage controlLowers motor torque so the load inertia keeps the DC link charged during a supply loss.
21.18Auto restart timeAllows restart after a supply loss of up to 10 s; the fault is held back during this time.
95.01Supply voltageShould match the actual supply; checked for warning A3A2.
31.12Autoreset selection (bit 2: undervoltage)Can reset undervoltage automatically.

Evidence to collect

Work on fuel trains, burners, pressure vessels and electrical equipment must be done by qualified personnel following the manufacturer’s documentation and local codes. Never bypass a safety device or interlock.
