Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 (XAR/XAE) with EtherCAT fault ADS 7: Target machine not found (0x7, ERR_TARGETMACHINENOTFOUND)
Beckhoff: target computer not found – AMS route was not found. The local ADS router has no route to the AMS NetId the client addressed, so the request never leaves the client machine.
Diagnose this with AI
Try Free PLC Fault Diagnostic Upload a keypad photo, the fault history or a parameter export from your Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 (XAR/XAE) with EtherCAT. InduQT compares the evidence and suggests the next useful checks.
When it happens
- On the first connection from XAE, an HMI or an ADS client
- After the target’s AMS NetId, IP address or hostname changed
Likely causes and checks
1No ADS route configured for the target
- Points to it
- Fresh engineering PC or HMI; the target never appears in the route list.
- Check
- Check the static routes on the client (and the reverse route on the target) for the target AMS NetId.
2AMS NetId in the client does not match the target
- Points to it
- Target was replaced or its AMS NetId was changed; NetId typed by hand.
- Check
- Compare the client NetId with the target’s NetId (SYSTEM > Routes > NetId Management, or the TwinCAT SysTray Router). The target must be restarted after a NetId change.
3Route points to an old IP address or hostname
- Points to it
- Target moved to a new IP or DHCP lease changed.
- Check
- Check the address stored in the route and that the target answers on it.
Telling it apart
- ADS 7 is raised locally before any packet reaches the target; ADS 1861 (timeout) means a request was sent but no answer came back in time.
- If the route exists and the error persists, check that incoming TCP 48898 (communication) and UDP 48899 (broadcast search) are allowed on the target, as Beckhoff lists for ADS through a firewall.
Evidence to collect
- Route list of client and target
- AMS NetId and IP of both sides
- Firewall rules on the target
- Result of the broadcast search in XAE
Work on fuel trains, burners, pressure vessels and electrical equipment must be done by qualified personnel following the manufacturer’s documentation and local codes. Never bypass a safety device or interlock.
