ABB ACS580 trips Fault 2310 instantly at start, what to check?
My ABB ACS580 drive is tripping Fault 2310 (Overcurrent) immediately when I try to start the motor, even with no load. What should I be looking for first?
Fault 2310 (Overcurrent) on an ABB ACS580 drive indicates the output current exceeded its internal limit. While a heavy load or fast acceleration can cause this, an instant trip at start, especially with no load, points to issues with the motor, its cable, or connections. An earth fault or lost supply phase can also trigger this fault.
Likely causes and checks
1Motor, cable or connection fault
- Points to it
- The drive is tripping instantly at start, even with little load, which is a strong indicator of a fault in the motor, its cable, or the connections.
- Check
- Check the motor and motor cable, including phasing and the star/delta connection.
2Earth fault
- Points to it
- An earth fault can cause an overcurrent trip, and this is a possibility if the trips persist even with the load removed.
- Check
- Measure the insulation resistance of the motor and cable, with the motor disconnected from the drive.
3Motor data wrong
- Points to it
- Incorrect motor data entered into the drive can lead to overcurrent trips, especially if the drive or motor was recently replaced.
- Check
- Compare the motor data in group 99 with the motor rating plate.
4Wrong scaling
- Points to it
- Incorrect scaling parameters can cause the drive to misinterpret current levels, leading to an overcurrent trip, particularly after commissioning or a parameter change.
- Check
- Check scaling parameters 46.01, 46.02 and 46.03.
Next check: If the above checks don't resolve the issue, also check for any equipment switching in the motor cable or power-factor capacitors/surge absorbers fitted on the motor side, as these can also cause overcurrent trips.
